Tony's first professional win:  1967, in the Bob Tullius, Group 44 Triumph Spitfire

Tony Remembers:    Showing promise as a racing driver.  The head tilted back & peering over the windscreen in the rain was so I could see better.  I won overall convincingly in the rain soaked airport circuit.  I passed Bob Sharp in his F production roadster on the straight, he was disappointed, as he was in the lead.

This was the race when Kas Kastner (the Triumph company/sponsorship Czar) developed respect for my talents.  He was also blown away with the results.  The first time Kas saw our car in the garage, he asked "Where are the dry tires?", my reply, "Your looking at them".  He said with amazement, "We have bigger rain tires than that on our California Spitfires".  But we didn't break axles like they did.

I was also to drive the Spitfire in G production.  My deal with Bob Tullius was to learn his ways, be a protégé so to speak, and not race the Volvo any longer.  It was a good learning time for me as well, although the all-nighters were a real stretch.
